Former Republican President Donald Trump has a lead over Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris on who would better lead the country through the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, a Wall Street Journal poll of seven swing states found.
The poll, released Friday, found Harris and Trump tied overall in the seven states that could decide November’s presidential election.
The poll found Harris leading by just under two percentage points in Arizona, Georgia and Michigan, Trump by six percentage points in Nevada and one percentage point in Pennsylvania, and the two tied in North Carolina and Wisconsin. The poll of 600 registered voters in each state, conducted Sept. 28-Oct. 8, had a margin of error of four percentage points in each state.
The head-to-head results echo other polls that show a neck-and-neck race ahead of the Nov. 5 election as Americans grapple with concerns about the economy, immigration, women’s rights and the country’s democratic values ​​as they choose between the two candidates.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll this week also found Trump and Harris neck-and-neck nationally, with Harris narrowly ahead, 46% to 43%.
Polls of voters in swing states can be an important indicator, as Electoral College results in each individual state will determine the winner, with the seven swing states likely to be decisive.
Harris would win a narrow majority in the Electoral College if she wins the states where she is ahead in the WSJ poll.
According to the WSJ poll, Trump leads Harris 50% to 39% in the seven swing states when it comes to who is best suited to handle Russia’s war in Ukraine. Trump also has a 48% to 33% lead over Harris when it comes to who is better suited to handle the war between Israel and Hamas.
More voters said they supported Trump on the economy and immigration, while more said Harris would do a better job on housing, health care and caring for people like them, the WSJ poll found.
